About the workshop:
The Aesthetic of Contacting
Contact is the origin of all experience—the dynamic process that connects and articulates humans and their world. It is through contact that we give form to our existence.
In this workshop, Jean-Marie Robine and Ruella Frank explore the aesthetic nature of contacting, where movement, sensation, and meaning unfold in the forming of forms. Ruella highlights the fundamental movements that underlie contact, tracing the rhythmic patterns that shape our lived bodily experience. Jean-Marie draws on the aesthetics to reveal how sense and meaning emerge through the very act of forming. Together, they invite participants into an embodied exploration of the interplay between movement and aesthetic perception and action—where we are both actively and passively engaged and responding to the fascinations of the world.
Through lectures, movement experiments, clinical illustrations, demonstrations, and improvisational practices, we will investigate the kinetic-kinesthetic and aesthetic qualities that orient our contacting. In this interweaving of sensing and being sensed, moving and being moved, we intuitively find and make me with you.
